Day 2 - Saturday
Feeling like a different person today. Happy to be alive and very happy to be here with Matt. Mr. Positive who never misses a beat. He is an amazing human in a million ways. I feel so lucky to be with him, especially at this juncture in my life.
We got up and made coffee with the coffee I brought from home. Sat outside and watched the sun come up while enjoying the coffee. Such wonderful moments and at the same time, my heart continues to break in a million pieces. I'm sad David's life ended knowing how much he loved life.
We decided to drive to Waimea Canyon today and got a pretty early start. Ate some yogurt and nuts in the room and headed out. Beautiful drive and we stopped several times to admire the views. Got the the lookout finally and wow, just wow. These views are hard to absorb. The Canyon is beautiful and awe inspiring.
We wanted to hike and headed on up the road to Ke'e State Park to the trailhead. The day was beautiful although very breezy. Grateful actually for the breezes. It is hot without them. The hike was mostly downhill in with many very exposed parts of the trail. A misstep and you would not survive. But the Canyon is so gorgeous. The hike ended at a little waterfall. Just loved every minute of the hike and doing it with Matt. We enjoy each other so much. Hiked out with a lot of uphill and tough surfaces, sandy and slippery, but uphill is easier than down, that's for sure. It is hot and we are so sweaty but loving the hike and being together.
After the hike, we headed back to Waimea and had tacos at yet another hole in the wall. Some of the best tacos I've ever eaten. Matt had fish tacos and I had pulled pork. So good!
Headed back towards our home away from home, we stopped in Lihue at Kalapaki Bay. Showed Matt the Marriott where David and I spent so much time. It is a nice swimming beach but the wind is stiff and the water is rough. It was about 4 pm and we decided we didn't feel like getting in the water. We did encounter some kids jumping off a bridge into what they informed us was "doodoo water". I couldn't believe it was what it sounded like but the girl informed me that it indeed it was water that had "poop and pee" in it. She told us that if you jumped in there with open cuts that she would pray for you. It gave us a laugh. Didn't slow them down. They were somersaulting off the bridge. Full encounter with this gross water. Not sure where the parents were.
Finishing our day with dinner at the restaurant steps from our place. Live Hawaiian music with tropical breezes. Lovely. The prices were a little more than either of us felt like paying so we kept it simple. Matt is still working on his thawed ice cream so he enjoyed dessert in our room.
Crashed again! So tired. But I've been sleeping like a baby.
