Day 1 - Friday
Got up this morning at 4 am. Yikes. So early and I didn't sleep well. Not sure why. My Fitbit said I got a bit more than five hours of restless sleep. I've been thinking about David constantly the last couple of days and missing him intensely.
We drove Matt's car to the airport uneventfully and parked. Caught the shuttle to the airport with no problem. I stood in line at Peet's for 20 minutes for my coffee with heavy cream only to be told they had just run out of heavy cream. So I ended up with a gigantic half sweet caramel latte for the same price. Not too bad of an exchange. And I got my fix. The flight was very smooth and easy. My left hamstring and foot were throbbing the last couple of hours but I got through it ok.
The line for Budget car rental was long but we finally got our car and headed out. We had a few hours to kill before we could check in. Drove to Kapa'a and found a restaurant right by our place and had lunch. Shared a Hawaiian pizza. Never could get this kind of pizza with David because he didn't like it. I love it and Matt does to so it is nice to share. It was pretty good and it was nice to eat after the long plane ride and nothing but snack food.
After lunch, we drop up to Opaeka'a Falls and wandered around a bit. Stopped at another spot where there is a temple that is made out of carved granite with a golden roof. We couldn't get in because it was closed but we wandered around the grounds including a statute of a giant monkey. Stopped at a viewpoint for the Wailua River on the way back.
I'm so tired that I can barely function and wonder if I might be getting sick. Total exhaustion. I was so busy the last few days at home and not sleeping well, crying a lot. I'm starting to collapse, emotionally and physically. I'm completed inundated with memories everywhere I look and am hoping I did not make a mistake coming here. Feeling so sad, lost and emotional. Wondering again how I got here and at the same time, I know how.
We decided to see if our room was ready. We had self check in and we got in ok, It looked clean so we settled in to relax. I fell asleep for a few minutes on the bed which felt very nice. A bit later, a couple of people entered to our surprise. They were bringing a missing dresser and nightstand. It was nice to have those two pieces of furniture added.
The room is so nice. Just nice enough with a wonderful view of the ocean. We can sit out on the lanai and feel the island breezes and hear the waves. Very idyllic.
After we got all settled in, we headed to Safeway and bought a few groceries including Matt's favorite ice cream. When we returned, we discovered our fridge did not have a freezer! There was a cooler in the room which we filled with ice and gained a bit of time for the ice cream. Matt ate it all anyway! Most of it melted but this guy will not let things go to waste. I'm learning that.
We ate at a little hole in the wall for dinner with delicious fish that was reasonably priced. After we ate, we walked around a bit more. Somehow we managed to get more than 10,000 steps today! By now, I am the walking comatose. We came back to the room and headed to bed early - just a bit after 7:30. We had some prelude to sleep which was wonderful as always. Fell asleep about 8:20 and slept until almost 6 am!
Woke up feeling restored.
